New owner coming for Pittsburgh AM daytimer

Tim Martz believes in the power of radio so much that his company is named Radio Power Inc. Martz is putting his money where his company naming-style is with a deal for WPYT-AM in the Pittsburgh market.

The seller is Alex Langer’s Langer Broadcasting Outdoors. According to broker John Pierce, the price of the station will be $290K.

WPYT is a Class D licensed to Wilkinsburg PA, with 1.4 kW coming from a non-directional stick. It has to clear off the air at night to protect New York’s iconic Sports franchise WFAN-AM.

Pierce noted that it’s the second spin-off for Langer this year. He earlier sent WBIX-AM Natick MA to Holy Family Communications for $1M. The station serves the Boston market and the buyer is noncommercial. The value of the station was agreed to be $1.5M, with the remaining $500K treated as a charitable contribution by Langer. It was filed with the FCC 7/12/10.
