Long-time Associated Press journalist Thomas Kent is the new president of Radio Free Europe and Radio Free Liberty. He replaces Nenad Pejic, who became Acting RFE/RL President after Kevin Klose stepped down in 2014.
Kent’s “track record in digital news expansion and his collaborative leadership style aligns with the board’s vision of a unified, innovative and effective U.S. International Media,” said Jeff Shell, chairman of the network’s board.
Kent began at the AP in 1972, with stints that included Moscow Bureau Chief, International Editor, Deputy Managing Editor and, most recently, Standards Editor. He played a leading role in AP’s editorial and technical digital transformation.
