New Yorkers resist soft drink tax

It’s not as if New York citizens don’t already pay a sales tax and a deposit fee on sodas, says Nelson Eusebio, Chairman of New Yorkers Against Unfair Taxes. He is trying to whip up resistance to a proposed 18% tax on top of all that coming down from Albany. "This is a regressive tax that disproportionately targets middle and lower income New Yorkers and we won’t be fooled by Albany trying to control our lifestyle by policing what we eat and drink," Mr. Eusebio said.

RBR/TVBR observation: If we were a broadcaster in New York, we’d be all over this. It’s not just that Gov. David Paterson (D) made himself an easy target with this ill-considered proposal. Stations joining the resistance will be, at the same time, standing up for their loyal fans – and standing up for their friends in a key advertising category.
