News sharing in Boston

Boston is not included in the news sharing deal that the Fox and NBC O&O groups announced last November, because NBC doesn’t own its affiliate. Fox, however, has found another partner in the market.

Fox’s WFXT-TV and CBS O&O WBZ-TV announced that they will be sharing a news helicopter and routine news footage in the Boston market to save costs and eliminate duplication. The Local News Service agreement kicks in June 1.

Although a similar operation in Chicago has gotten participation by four of the market’s five major English-language news departments, other stations in Boston told the Boston Herald they have no interest in joining the Fox-CBS venture.
