Phil Simms: “For the Buffalo Bills, I am anxious to see if the New York Jets were just a bad match-up for them.”… (below)
THE NFL ON CBS lead announce team of Jim Nantz and Phil Simms call the action from the Buffalo Bills at Dallas Cowboys game live from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. Lance Barrow is the coordinating producer and lead game producer and Mike Arnold is the lead game director.
PHIL SIMMS
(On Buffalo @ Dallas):
For the Buffalo Bills, I am anxious to see if the New York Jets were just a bad match-up for them. The Jets do have outstanding defensive backs, probably the best in the NFL, and they are going to make it tough for any team that tries to just pass the football. So, even though the Dallas Cowboys have improved their secondary, it’s still not the New York Jets. So will Buffalo’s passing game be a little better, more efficient? And for the Bills’ run game, Dallas’ run defense has shown some weakness, so maybe those are all good signs for the Buffalo Bills offense.
Last week was a tremendous step forward for the Dallas Cowboys in a lot of ways. With Tony Romo getting healthier, now they can truly be the offense they want to be. They have a chance to be very dynamic on offense with a healthy Romo. And DeMarco Murray has been outstanding. I said two weeks ago on Showtime (Inside the NFL) he reminds me of Eric Dickerson except he’s just bigger. I’m not saying he is as good as Eric Dickerson yet, but very impressive. I remember him at SMU as a freshman going wild. You could see then he was a unique player.
You look at the Cowboys and the things that jump out at me – a top flight wide receiver, there might be a big time running back there, quarterback, a solid offensive line and arguably, the best pass-rusher in the NFL. Those are some qualities that you have to look at. I read somewhere that Dallas is in a rebuilding year and that might be true. But, I’m interested to watch them play to see if maybe this can be much more than a rebuilding year. Hard to say that about a 4-4 team, but that’s how I feel.
