Nickelodeon greenlights iCarly for another year

This will be season five for the hit show directed at kids. The new season will roll out in 2012. Launched in 2007, iCarly has actually done well with both kid and adult audiences.  Most recently, the show drew 7.4 million total viewers with the episode “iOMG” (4/9, at 8 p.m. ET/PT), which also nabbed basic cable’s top spot for the week with viewers P2+.

Year-to-date, “iOMG” ranks as the top telecast with all kid and tween demos on all TV and is basic cable’s top kids’ telecast with total viewers.  iCarly is created and executive produced by television hitmaker Dan Schneider (Victorious, Zoey 101, Drake & Josh).

The show also sets viewership records and frequently tops all basic cable and broadcast TV entertainment programs with specials like “iGot a Hot Room” and “iSaved Your Life.”

RBR-TVBR observation: One of the unique draws to the show is there are no parents present in the script. Carly’s older brother Spencer is the guardian and they all seem to do just fine. It’s a bit of a departure from the template of parents “getting in the way of fun,” so to speak. The show may even empower kid viewers to do some of their own video productions and get immersed in the new technologies that the program often showcases.
