The Nielsen Company announced that it will provide an additional 2.5 million to the Council for Research Excellence (CRE), enabling this independent forum of Nielsen clients to conduct its own methodological research on video audience measurement into 2008. Nielsen created the CRE in 2005 via a dedicated 2.5 million Research and Development grant, and since then it has contributed a total of 7.5 million to address industry research priorities. In addition to the original funding and its 2008 commitment, Nielsen also extended its support for the CRE with 2.5 million for 2006.
