Noncom AM radio group expands into Pennsylvania

It’s news when a noncommercial station in the unreserved band goes back into the ranks of the advertiser-supported, but more commonly, stations have been going the other way of late, and the sale of WVZN-AM Columbia PA is no exception.

The station is being sold by Wilson Cortez’s Esfuerzo do Union Cristiana, and is going to non-profit Radio Vision Cristiana Management, headed by Hector A. Chiesa.

The price will be $150K. $50K of that will be in the form of a down payment, and the remaining $100K will be paid over time pursuant to terms of a promissory note. An LMA will be put into place prior to closing.

The station is located between Lancaster PA (to the east) and York (to the west), and its primary daytime signal comes up to the edge of each city limit. It is a Class D on 1580 with 500 W-D, and only 5 W-N, on a non-directional antenna.

This will be the fourth station for RCVM. Outside of New York City it owns and operations WWRV-AM Paterson NJ. Also outside NYC in the White Plains NY area is has WRVP-AM Mount Kisco NY. And it also owns WWCL-AM Lehigh Acres FL in the Fort Myers-Naples-Marco Island market.
