Not so grand way to spend ten grand

$10K – the going rate for a public file violation as assessed by the FCC Enforcement Bureau. And the latest dragnet pulled in four stations and two owners.

KSLC-FM McMinnville OR, a noncom licensed to Linfield College, was one of the stations. It was missing program/isues lists from 1999 through 2001.

The other three stations are all part of the Finger Lakes Radio Group. Two are licensed to Auburn Broadcasting Inc. – WSFW-AM Seneca Falls NY and WAUB-AM Auburn NY; and the other to Lake County Broadcasting Inc. – WNYR-FM Waterloo NY. They were also deficient in the issues/program category, dating from September 1998 to the fourth quarter of 2001. Each station was hit with a separate $10K fine for a Finger Lakes total of $30K.

Finger Lakes noted that the stations were under different management at the time the violations occurred. It was able to contact former employees who maintained the files during the time of the omissions. The employees said they were filed as required, but the fact is that they were missing nevertheless.

All four stations were granted license renewals.
