One of the nation’s foremost communications law attorneys, a fixture in Washington, D.C., since joining Kirkland & Ellis in March 1964 as an associate, has formally announced his retirement.

Erwin Krasnow, whose career included a stint as SVP/General Counsel at the NAB from October 1976-March 1984, and a lengthy role as a Partner at Verner, Liipfert, Bernard, McPherson & Hand, is actively saying goodbye to his clients and peers.

Krasnow presently serves as of counsel to Foster Garvey, formerly Garvey Schubert Barer.

He joined GSB in 2004, following a two-year stint at Shook Hardy & Bacon.

Krasnow’s experience in Washington began on Capitol Hill, as an Administrative Assistant to Rep. Torbert Macdonald, from 1962-1964.

Today, he’s also known for his years of service on the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council (MMTC), serving as Vice Chairman since 1998.

Krasnow was selected by the readers of Radio + Television Business Report as One of America’s Top Ten Brokers and Attorneys in Radio and Television in October 2019.

He said, “Looking back, I have been fortunate in my career: My work has always been a labor of love. Communications has been a life-long passion, going back well over half a century. While in high school, I hosted a sports quiz show on an AM station in Fall River, Mass.”

In “retirement,” Krasnow said he will be spending “quality time with my wife, Jane, and my six grandchildren, and will stay in communications by co-chairing the Mentorship, Pipeline and Professional Development Committee of the Multicultural Media, Telecom and Internet Council, writing articles for RBR+TVBR, and serving on the Board of the Library of American Broadcasting.”

Among those lauding Krasnow is Hoffman Schutz Media Capital’s David Schutz.

“Erwin has been a pillar of regulatory side of the broadcast industry for more than four decades,” he said.
