NYT planning to liquidate radio station?

That’s the buzz in New York, according to the New York Times’ crosstown rival New York Post. Word has it that Classical WQXR-FM may be on the block to bring much-needed cash into the company. The Times has already dispensed with its television station group. NYP says that a $50M pricetag might be representative of “anybody’s best guess.”

RBR/TVBR observation: Such a move wouldn’t surprise us a bit, if there’s anyone left standing with the wherewithal to pay for the station, even at a steep discount. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see the format go by the boards unless the buyer is a well-heeled cultural white knight.
