NZ knocks down liquor ad ban

The airwaves are safe for alcohol advertising down under in New Zealand, following an 80-36 Parliament vote rejecting calls from the Green Party for a total ban on such ads. The equivalent of the FCC chair found it ironic that the same Green Party had been pushing for liberalized marijuana laws. Ads are already banned from 6AM to 8:30PM.

RBR/TVBR observation: The bill apparently was fairly porous – exceptions had to be made for imported programming, and it was believed it would punish broadcasters who are already in the grip of the global advertising recession.
