Simultaneous Spanish translation has been available for some time now in the debates by candidates for President of the United States, but another language is being added for tomorrow’s debate by Senators John McCain (R-AZ) and Barack Obama (D-IL). KSCI-TV Los Angeles plans to provide its Asian audience with simultaneous translation of the debate in Mandrin Chinese. The station, know as “LA 18,” says there are an estimated 900,000 registered Asian voters in the LA television market. The live debate broadcast is part of an election series on the station that includes programming in Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese and Filipino (Tagalog).
