On Stephen Chessare named SVP/Sales at Westwood One last week

Rich Russo, JL Media’s SVP/Director of Broadcast Services commented:

“Every morning, I debate whether or not to go to 7-11 and buy a newspaper and a big gulp for $1.50 or buy 1 share of Westwood One stock. 7-11 always wins…but now my decision will change. Snappy Chessare (Russo has nicknames for everyone and we won’t even ask what Snappy means) is undoubtedly one of the best sales managers in the history of radio. He has shockingly flown under the radar for many years and what he accomplished at WLTW will most likely never be matched by any station again. This is huge for Westwood One and I would imagine there will be huge impact and growth there now. As for WLTW, they’ve got some work to do considering now they have lost both Chessare as well as PD Jim Ryan, which is like the Yankees losing Derek Jeter and A-Rod. I always give the benefit of the doubt to the legendary incumbent radio stations that undergo massive personnel changes and competition and WLTW fits that category, they’ve got a tough road ahead and let’s see how they do…”
