One Big-Box Retailer Revs Up Radio Spots

The Home Depot may be at No. 1 for weeks to come, given its long run as the No. 1 retailer using radio to reach consumers.

Savvy C-Suiters may wish to look at the current activity for a big-box retailer that is filling stores with consumers ahead of the busy back-to-school shopping season.

That’s because JCPenney is No. 5 with 26,082 spots, rising from the eighth position last week.

The retailer is making moves; sales were brisk at its Pembroke Lakes Mall store in Broward County, Fla., on Saturday. On Monday, the retailer announced that it is now accepting Apple Pay across all U.S. stores.

Yet, investors remain bearish on department stores, with analysts noting that JCPenney and its brethren need to do more to compete with online behemoths including Amazon.

Instead, it is opening toy stores in its brick-and-mortar stores.

JCPenney is the lone department store on this week’s Media Monitors Radio Spot Ten report.
