Pai Stops By An Alpha Media Outpost

It’s a cold, rainy Wednesday in Brookings, S.D., but Alpha Media is still basking in the warmth of a recent visit to its radio stations by none other than the Chairman of the FCC.

Brookings is the home of South Dakota State University and an hour’s drive north of Sioux Falls. The nearest major market, Minneapolis-St. Paul, is 200 miles to the east.

Here, local media matters, and Alpha Media operates News/Talk KBRK-AM, Classic Country KJJQ-AM, AC KBRK-FM, Country KKQQ-FM, and Classic Hits KDBX-FM.

The five stations played host to Ajit Pai on Sept. 17, with FCC Special Counsel Preston Wise in tow.

Pai and Wise met the staff, and took a tour.

Alpha Media’s GM in Brookings, Cami Powers, said all were honored to welcome them. “It is really a tribute to his hands-on leadership that he would take the time to visit a small-market group like Alpha/Brookings, where the broadcast efforts are so integral to the communities we serve.”

Pai was in Brookings to see the new Precision Ag Center at SDSU and to visit with students about the new, high-tech program.
