DirecTV yesterday began local-to-local delivery of PBS stations in HD in 14 markets, with more slated for roll-out in the coming months. The first 14 markets were Cedar Rapids-Waterloo-Iowa City-Dubuque, IA; Chicago; Davenport, IA-Rock Island-Moline, IL; Detroit, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami-Fort Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, New York, Norfolk-Newport News, VA; Phoenix; Portland, OR; Rochester, NY; and Waco-Temple-Bryan, TX. The local public television HD launch follows the recent ratification by public television stations of the landmark agreement reached late last year by DirecTV, the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS) and PBS.
