PIRATE Act Heads To Full House E&C For Consideration

Legislation proposed by Reps. Leonard Lance and Paul Tonko that would set steep financial penalties for individuals found to be operators of unlicensed radio stations has moved from the Subcommittee on Communications and Technology to the full House Energy & Commerce Committee.

This is the next step in moving H.R. 5709, dubbed the “PIRATE Act”, to an eventual floor vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Importantly, the bill to be considered by the full House E&C Committee does not include an amendment from Rep. Chris Collins, who decided not to offer it ahead of Wednesday’s markup.
