Political windfalls aren’t always earth-shattering

There is an open US House seat in the Kansas’ 1st District. It has been abandoned by Jerry Moran (R-KS), who is running in his own right for an abandoned seat – the one in the Senate being vacated by Sam Brownback (R-KS). There are at least four Republicans looking to win the party’s primary to take over the seat.

According to CQPolitics, one of them is ready to make a case over television, with less than five months to go before the primary is held.

State Rep. Tim Huelskamp is buying television and cable in Wichita and cable only in Topeka, according to the report, for a total expenditure of about $25K.

Of the three other candidates, one is said to have started making radio buys in rural areas.

RBR-TVBR observation: This is another one of those situations where one party’s primaries may as well be considered the general election, and in this case, it is the Republican Party. It is likely to remain in the Safe Republican category no matter which of the four current candidates prevails in the intramural battle.
