Veteran Detroit radio host Dick Purtan and “Purtan’s People” came through again, raising $2,262,931 for the Salvation Army of Greater Detroit in the latest Dick Purtan Radiothon. The latest $2.2 million raised by Purtan and WOMC-FM “Oldies 104.3” brings the tally for the past 22 years to nearly $22 million. Purtan noted the urgent need for food and shelter in the current economic downturn. The Salvation Army of Greater Detroit serves nearly 5,000 meals per day to children, adults and seniors, along with sheltering 570 people each night.
