Radio breaks even in 2008

Great, right? It was great – if your stations are located in Australia. According to industry organization Commercial Radio Australia, commercial radio in most of the major Australian metropolitan areas actually increased in 2008 over 2007, but a 7% drop in the nation’s largest city, Syndey, brought the industry into the red by a mere whisker, with a loss of -0.1%. According to The Age, the feat was pulled off in the context of a difficult overall media environment, in which radio was described as “resilient.”

RBR/TVBR observation: If we were NAB and/or RAB, we’d have a delegation on its way Down Under right now, to find out how they’re managing to pull this off.
