Radio deals close in Florida, North Carolina

A deal sending FM station in Sarasota FL from one noncommercial entity to another has made it to the finish line, as has a deal between commercial entities for an AM in the Charlotte NC area. In the first deal will a religious station will be transforming into a classical outlet, and in the second, a station will remaining in the religious genre.


In the Florida deal, WSMR-FM is going from Northwestern College Radio Network to the University of South Florida. The buyer was looking to offer both fine arts and news/info programming, and will be using the Sarasota-licensed WSMR as a home for Beethoven and pals.

According to Patrick Communications, representing the seller, and Public Radio Capital, representing the buyer, the price was $1.275M.

In the Charlotte transaction, WBZK-AM has been sold by Michael Glinter’s Satellite Radio Network to Stuart Epperson Jr.’s Truth Broadcasting Corporation. It will form an AM duopoly with the Christian/educational/talk offerings of Truth’s WCRU-AM, serving the market from Dallas NC.

According to broker John Pierce, the price tag on this one was $400K.
