Radio helping break out

Numerous artists are featured on a new offering from Atlantic that should hit it out of the ballpark with the Echo Boomer generation. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 Original Motion Picture Soundtrack” is ready for retail, and the first single from the collection is hitting in three radio formats.

The debut single is “It Will Rain” from Bruno Mars. According to Atlantic, it is quickly being accepted and played by US radio stations.

Atlantic said, “The track is currently blowing up on multi-format radio outlets nationwide, coming in this week as a top 15 favorite on the Top 40 airplay charts, top 20 at Hot AC, and top 25 at CHR/Rhythmic outlets.”

Cuts from the collection are also being featured on broadcast talk/variety programs, on cable music platforms and on internet venues. Atlantic is also taking its show on the road, featuring select artists and cast members from the movie at live concert events in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, San Francisco, and Salt Lake City.

RBR-TVBR observation: This is one set of recorded music that by definition can make use of a plethora of platforms to attract paying customers. That is all the more reason to appreciate the prominent role radio is playing in helping the artists and the label earn a living.

Radio stations in the tour towns could continue to help enrich Atlantic, talking up the events, giving away tickets, playing music from the artists that will be on the bill. For a pair of challenged businesses in a very challenging economy, we believe partnership is a better route to take than the royalty sniping that have characterized the last several years.
