Radio One fires up political coverage online

Radio One’s new media unit, Interactive One, is going all out with coverage of this week’s Democratic National Convention from Denver. Both traditional news reporters and bloggers are churning out exclusive content for both NewsOne.com and BlackPlanet.com. But most unconventional are the webisodes hosted by rapper and music producer Big Boi, half of the hip-hop duo OutKast.

Big Boi’s webisodes, "We the People," will be exclusive to NewsOne.com and BlackPlanet.com. Big Boi will conduct sit-down interviews with influential political and media players as well as host "man on the street" interviews to capture the many voices of Black America during this historic period. Confirmed guests include, Professor William Jelani Cobb, song writer and producer Bryan Michael Cox, Atlanta City Councilman Ceasar Mitchell, rapper Yung Joc and Elder Bernice King, the daughter of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

NewsOne said it will provide more news, commentary, and exclusive content than any other outlet catering to the African-American online community. The content will reside on NewsOne as well as on BlackPlanet, the largest social networking site serving the African-American community with more than 18 million members. NewsOne’s reporters and bloggers will have unprecedented access at the convention and coverage will include up-to-the-minute news with feeds from TV One and Black America Web, expert commentary and analysis, and interviews including TV One’s live Q&A with Michelle Obama. The site will also provide a live interactive forum encouraging users to share their own opinions and insights about the upcoming election.
