In an economic climate tinged by seas of red ink, Radio Shack managed to post a year-over-year increase in net income, going from $41.4M to $48.8M and beating Street estimates. On the plus side, sales of digital TVs and DTV transition-related antennae helped fuel the surge. However, cost containment also figured into the financial mix, including closing unprofitable stores, saving on employee compensation and (don’t tell anybody) (shhhhhh!) cutting back on advertising.
