Radio talker/business magnate enters GOP White House race

Herman Cain is often credited with overseeing the rescue of Godfather’s Pizza, and his latest career has been with Cox Radio, where he shares his opinions with fans of WSB AM-FM Atlanta. But that gig will have to go on hold, now that he is a declared candidate for the Republican 2012 presidential nomination.

Cain has been testing the waters for some time, and managed to score points at the recent South Carolina debate broadcast by Fox News Channel.

The candidate is in the race vying for the Tea Party wing of the Republican Party. He is from humble roots, has a lengthy corporate resume and is a cancer survivor. He is focused on taming the deficit, which he believes means reining in Social Security and Medicare, among other things.

He declared Saturday 5/21/11.

His message to his followers is, “The past several months I have been able to meet with people across this country. One thing is clear: America craves for real solutions to the problems we face. That’s why I’m running for President of the United States!”

RBR-TVBR observation: Many of the Republican candidates have had relationships with Fox News Channel, and two – Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum – were suspended from appearing as commentators on the network some time ago. Now that both are formally in the race, they are formally off FNC. Likewise, Cain will have to sever ties with Cox until he is not longer involved in the pursuit of elective office.
