In the 10am hour on Thursday, August 16, 2018, the world lost a queen. Aretha Franklin passed away at her home in Detroit at the age of 76. As publicist Gwendolyn Quinn told the Associated Press, Franklin’s death was due to advanced pancreatic cancer. Franklin had been receiving in-home Hospice care over the last several days.
As the world digested the news of the death of the “Queen of Soul,” RBR+TVBR opted to play the music of Aretha Franklin in tribute to her astounding contributions to music over six decades of recording industry prowess. It took an Urban One station based in Detroit and its iHeartRadio competitor to satisfy our needs.
