Raycom, Belo combining for Tucson TV trio

Television group owner Raycom will be in the drivers seat in an agreement with Belo Corporation that will combine operations of Raycom’s CBS affiliate with the Fox and MNT outlets the latter group owns in the market.
Raycom owns KOLD. The Belo stations are Fox KMSB and MNT KTTU.

According to a report in the TucsonSentinel.com, Belo will maintain a licensee presence in the market as required by FCC rules and regulations, which will focus on sales. Other aspects of station operations will be turned over to Raycom.

It means that Belo sales staff will continue to be employed, and members of the news staff will not, necessarily. It is possible some of them may catch on with KOLD, and according to the article, some may have an opportunity to work for Belo in other markets where it has a presence.

Other than leaving a certain amount of staff in the market on its payroll, Belo is making definitive signs of pulling up stakes. The building that housed the television stations is an owned asset, and it is said to be earmarked for sale or lease.
