Raycom makes its presence in a 4th GA market official

It will be difficult to notice any changes at WFXG-TV Augusta GA on the ground – Raycom Media has been operating the station going back to the signing of a 12/1/03 LMA contract. But there will be a major change – the group is going from renter to owner.

The seller is Southeastern Media Holdings Inc., headed by Thomas B. Henson. It’s a subsidiary of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc.

The price is $17,837,520, which includes a $1M deposit and a cash payment for the balance at closing.

WFXG is a Fox affiliate, and it will become Raycom’s fourth Georgia television station (the glaring DMA omission in the Raycom Georgia portfolio is Atlanta).

The acquisition not only gives Raycom four stations in the state, it gives it its fourth major network affiliate. Its other stations include ABC WTVM-TV in Columbus GA, CBS WTOC-TV in Savannah GA and NBC WALB-TV in Albany GA.
