redrockradioRed Rock Radio Corp. has opted to sell 10 more of its stations in the Land of 10,000 Lakes.

In one deal, an AM-FM combo in International Falls and a six-station cluster serving Brainerd are being dealt away.

In the other deal, an AM-FM pair to the north of the Twin Cities is being sold.

The transactions come after the company in August agreed to sell five FMs and three affiliated translators to Midwest Communications.

Kalil & Co. is the exclusive broker for Red Rock in each of these transactions.

Red Rock on August 24 announced that it was selling KQDS-FM/Duluth, WEVE-FM/Eveleth, KGPZ-FM/Coleraine, WXXZ-FM/Grand Marais and KAOD-FM/Babbitt, Minn. — along with affiliated translators W252AN in Hibbing, W288AI in Ely and W221AU in Virginia, Minn. – to Midwest Communications.

Now, it’s agreed to sell its six-station Brainerd, Minn. cluster and an AM-FM combo in International Falls, Minn. to R&J Broadcasting, for an undisclosed price.

R&J is headed by Jim Birkemeyer and owns five other stations in Minnesota.

With this deal, R&J picks up the following stations serving Brainerd: KKIN-AM & FM in Aitkin; WWWI-AM in Baxter; KFGI-FM in Crosby;  KLKS-FM in Pequot Lakes; and WWWI-FM in Pillager, Minn.

KKIN-AM is a Class B with 2 tower broadcasting with 2.5kw day and 360 watts at night, while KKIN-FM is a Class C3 with 14kw.

WWWI-AM is a directional Class B with 3 nighttime towers and 1 daytime tower, operating with 5kw.

KFGI-FM is a Class C3 with 25kw.

KLKS-FM is a Class A with 5,200 watts, located just to the north of Brainerd.

WWWI-FM is a Class A with 6kw.

In International Falls, R&J is acquiring KGHS-AM & KSDM-FM in International Falls. KGHS-AM is a Class C with 1 tower broadcasting with 460 watts day and 230 watts at night. KSDM-FM is a Class C3 with 8,500 watts.

In the second deal, announced separately on Sept. 16, Red Rock is selling WCMP-AM & FM in rural Pine City, Minn., to the north of the Twin Cities, for an undisclosed price.

Alan Quarnstrom’s Q Media Properties LLC is the buyer.

Class D WCMP-AM 1350 has 1 tower and operates with 1kw day and 52 watts at night. Class C3 WCMP-FM 100.9 broadcasts with 25kw.

Minnesota-based Q Media owns six radio stations in the state; Red Rock, headed by Kathy Lau and Shawn Skramstad, owns stations in Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Red Rock has not commented on the transactions, which up the number of stations sold since late August to 15.
