The Daily Beast reports that NBC and Conan O’Brien have agreed on a settlement which will free O’Brien from his contract.

The report cites sources as saying that Ron Meyer, head of the Universal film studio and a former agent, was able to step in and resolve an impasse.

The bottom line: NBC writes a check to O’Brien, but he won’t be blocked from working elsewhere.

Deadline Hollywood reports the sum will be close to $40 million: “And Conan was adamant that NBC take care of the people close to him — [executive producer] Jeff Ross and the staff who moved out to Los Angeles.” According to the pact, Conan leaves The Tonight Show on January 22nd.
