Four people were arrested in Union, SC following an attack on WSPA-TV (Ch. 7, CBS) Spartanburg reporter Charmayne Brown, who was across the street from a murder scene. Brown, who is black, said people had shouted racial insults at her before the attack, which was videotaped by another station’s news crew. Brown’s own photographer, Ti Barnes, was busy trying to free her from the assailants and he was roughed up as well. Barnes is also black.

Hearst-Argyle’s WYFF-TV (Ch. 4, NBC) provided Media General’s WSPA with its video from the attack and both have clips posted on their websites.

Both stations had been at the site to report on the arrest of a young man charged with murdering his grandfather. The people arrested for the attack, believed to be relatives of the man charged with murder, are all white. They did not attack the white news crew from WYFF.
