Rihanna taps radio to help launch new music

In the new world of music marketing, there is no avoiding online, since the days of the brick and mortar music store are ebbing away. But smart musicians still know that radio is a great way to gain the notice of fans – which is why multiplatinum artist Rihanna is using radio and Facebook to kick off sales for her latest single “We Found Love.”

According to Def Jam, Rihanna is cutting the tune loose on radio and on Facebook simultaneously. The song is being used to pave the way for her next album, which will be a follow-up to 8-million-seller “LOUD.”

The artist is also supporting sales with a tour of European locations that extends into December 2011.

The artist makes no bones about radio’s role in furthering her career – the “We Found Love” release makes note of the fact that radio airplay placed an earlier release — “Only Girl (In the World)” – as her eighth release to hit #1 on the Dance Airplay list – giving her the lead over another extremely famous single-name pop diva who goes simply by Madonna – and of course allowing her to sell millions of recordings.
