wbhqFlagler County Broadcasting’s Variety Hots WBHQ-FM Palm Coast/Daytona Beach (“Beach 927”) has a new co-host in former heavy metal band member Kenny Wilkerson. Wilkerson, of the 1980s hair-metal band Nova Rex, is the relatively new co-host of Club 927, a weekly one-hour commercial-free show on Beach 92.7 that features both known and new recording artists.

“We had him on in July and got to know him, and he definitely is a great musician and knows lots of musicians,” Terry Turner, senior account manager for Beach 92.7 and Club 927 host told the Daytona Beach News-Journal of Wilkerson. “He has such a knowledge of the industry.”

“I have no problem gabbing and I have a lot of buddies,” added Wilkerson.

Wilkerson, 47, lives in DeBary, FL and owns and manages tanning salons in Lake Mary, Orange City and DeLand.

He said he joined Nova Rex in 1985, right after he graduated from high school. A new offshoot of Club 927, called Club 927 Spotlight, will begin in February, Turner said, and will highlight independent artists who are trying to become known.

Wilkerson, who maintains many contacts in the music and recording industry, also wants to give new musicians a helping hand. Club 927 is on Beach 92.7 at 9 p.m. Sundays. Club 927 Spotlight will debut in February, also on Sundays.
