The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) will honor CBS News Chief Foreign Correspondent and “60 Minutes” Correspondent, Lara Logan, with the 2011 John F. Hogan Distinguished Service Award. The award will be presented September 26th during the organization’s conference in New Orleans.
Named for the founder and first president of RTDNA, the John F. Hogan Distinguished Service Award recognizes an individual’s contributions to journalism and freedom of the press. Past recipients include Christopher Glenn, Jack Shelley, Bob Priddy, Barbara Cochran and Walter Cronkite.
“Lara’s very courageous contributions to the journalism profession cannot be overstated,” said RTDNA Chairman Mark Kraham. “She is, perhaps, one of the most intrepid journalists we have ever given the Hogan award to. She will join a very exclusive RTDNA club this September. I am honored to be thanking her on behalf of RTDNA for advancing our profession.”
Logan’s bold, award-winning reporting from war zones over the past 19 years has earned her a prominent spot among foreign correspondents. In February 2011, she was sexually assaulted and beaten by a mob while reporting on the Egyptian revolution in Tahrir Square, an incident she broke her silence about on 60 Minutes to draw attention to the plight of women – particularly female journalists covering war zones – across the world. The 2011-12 season is Logan’s seventh reporting for 60 Minutes.
Logan’s five-segment series on U.S. Marines on patrol in Afghanistan for the “CBS Evening News” was named a 2007 National Edward R. Murrow Award winner in the Television Network/Syndication Service Video News Series category.
Logan has been CBS News chief foreign correspondent since February 2006; she became a correspondent for 60 Minutes the same year. Logan joined CBS in 2002 as a correspondent and a contributor to 60 Minutes She reports regularly for the “CBS Evening News” and periodically appears on “The Early Show” and “Face The Nation” in addition to her 60 Minutes duties.
RTDNA will present the award to Logan at the Paul White and John F. Hogan Award Ceremony on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 4 p.m. EDT in Waterbury Ballroom at the Sheraton New Orleans during the Excellence in Journalism 2011 Conference.
A reception honoring Paul White recipient, Linda Ellerbee, and Logan will follow the award ceremony.
