Rucker gives a hoot about radio

Darius Rucker, onetime lead singer for group Hootie and the Blowfish and current solo act, was a big winner at the CMA awards. And he becomes the latest musician to thank radio for making it all possible.

Rucker won CMA’s award for ‘New Artist of the Year.’

“To the fans, thank y’all for accepting me,” he said. “And most importantly, to country radio, you took a chance on a pop singer from Charleston, S.C., and God bless y’all for that.”

RBR-TVBR observation: RIAA says airplay is becoming increasingly irrelevant and is in fact working toward making it fiscally unviable for many stations in its misguided push for the Performance Rights Act. But musicians know better.
