Salem buying Columbus OH FM from Radio One

Salem CommunicationsThe sale of WJKR-FM Upper Arlington OH has been filed at the FCC, a deal that will provide religious powerhouse Salem Communications with a night time presence in the market, while leaving seller Radio One a continuing place there with a pair of retained FMs.

The price for the station will be $4M.

It’s a Class A on 98.9 MHz with decent coverage of the urbanized area of Ohio’s state capital. It has 2.6 kW @ 505’.

It joins up with Salem’s WRFD-AM, a Christan Talker with excellent daytime coverage via its 23 kW in 880 kHz. However, it is a day-timer, and is forced to shutter when the sun goes down.

One thing Salem will not be getting are the WJKR call letters – they will remain with Radio One.
So too will Radio One hang on to Urban WCKX-FM 107.5 and R&B Oldies WXMG-FM 106.3.
