How does one cluster up with three broadcast television outlets in one modestly-sized market? The answer is to make sure all of the stations (or at least all but one) are of the low power varieties. That is how Schurz Communications is going to end up with an ABC affiliate; a CW affiliate; and an MNT affiliate in the South Bend IN market. The stations are ABC 58 WBND-LP, 58, CW 25 WCWW-LP and My Network TV 69 WMYS-LP. And yes, there is a full-power station involved in the transaction. Schurz already owns CBS 22 WSBT-TV in South Bend, giving it a rare four-headed monster of a television cluster, just as long as all of its LPTV properties maintain their cable carriage. The value of the sale was not disclosed. Seller Wiegel Broadcasting also has television properties in Chicago and Milwaukee. Schurz has radio, television and other interests in multiple markets.
