Scripps’ ION-ization: Gaining The Legacy of Bud Paxson

WEST PALM BEACH — With Wells Fargo Securities analyst Steven Cahall saluting The E.W. Scripps Co. and ION Media for striking an “undoubtedly transformative” merger, the company led by Adam Symson will soon be assuming the legacy of an individual who was posthumously presented the NAB’s Spirit of Broadcasting Award at its 2015 NAB Show in Las Vegas.

Before ION Media there was Home Shopping Network (HSN) and PAX TV, the predecessor network of ION. Both entities are the direct results of efforts that began nearly 30 years ago by a man who also invested in radio stations across Florida — Lowell “Bud” Paxson.
