'SEC on CBS' LSU-Alabama ratings scores second highest

LSU-Alabama game scored the second highest-rated regular-season game in 24 years.


CBS Sports’ coverage of the SEC ON CBS on Saturday, Nov. 5 (8:00-11:45 PM, ET) which saw * #1-seeded LSU beat  #2 Alabama earned an average overnight rating/share of 11.9/21, up 170% from last year’s 4.4/10 in the metered markets (#5 Alabama-#12-ranked LSU; 3:30-7:15 PM, ET). 

The game also was up 153% from CBS Sports’ SEC primetime game on Oct.  1, 2011 featuring Alabama at Florida, which earned a 4.7/9.

LSU-Alabama game earned the second-highest rating for a regular-season college football game (excluding bowl games) on CBS in the metered markets since September 1987 (as far back as CBS records go).

Yesterday’s 11.9/21 for LSU-Alabama trailed only CBS’s 14.5/26 for Notre Dame vs. Miami (11/25/89).

Game rating peaked at a 14.5/27 from (11:30-11:45 PM, ET)

AND GAME SELETIONS JUST IN…

CBS Sports will broadcast an SEC doubleheader on Saturday, Nov. 12 with the first game of the doubleheader (12:00 NOON-3:30 PM, ET) featuring Florida at  #9 South Carolina. Tim Brando and Spencer Tillman will call the action, along with reporter Lewis Johnson.

The second window (3:30-7:00 PM, ET) will feature #22 Auburn visiting #18 Georgia. CBS Sports’ lead announce team of Verne Lundquist and Gary Danielson will call the contest, along with reporter Tracy Wolfson.
