Senator steps up to extend analog past deadline

Mirroring a bill introduced in the House of Representatives last week by Lois Capps (D-CA), John D. Rockefeller (D-WV) has a Senate offering in the hopper that would provide for analog television broadcasts after the 2/17/09 DTV deadline. Such a bill would provide a location where consumers who missed the deadline for either an MVPD subscription, or failed to buy a digital receiver or converter box, to get information on how to restore their connection broadcast television. It would also provide a place to broadcast emergency information to this same group.

RBR/TVBR observation: We think this makes sense. It is a direct link to the exact people who need a little extra help. Surely a plan to grant a little extra life to analog would be a relatively inexpensive insurance policy as we embark on the endgame of the biggest spectrum migration in history.
