Shaking the Judiciary tree

And the loosened fruit is landing in House Judiciary Committee chair John Conyer’s (D-MI) own lap. According to reports, intellectual property matters, once under the jurisdiction of the full committee’s Subcommittee on Courts, the Internet and Intellectual Property, will now be dealt with by the full committee, putting that particular agenda under Conyer’s direct control. The move comes upon the exit from the subcommittee chairmanship of Howard Berman (D-CA), whose entertainment-oriented California roots gave him a special interest in copyright and royalty issues.

RBR/TVBR observation: Items which may well come before Conyers include retransmission consent and broadcast performance royalties, in addition to copyright protection and antipiracy measures. So not all the fun will be over at Energy and Commerce.
