A check for $15,000 from donations raised by the Bubba the Love Sponge  Foundation was presented 11/29 to Laura Longway, widow of Hillsborough County, FL Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Longway, who was killed in a Tampa auto accident on September 21.

The check presentation as attended by Mrs. Longway, Sheriff David Gee and syndicated and satellite radio host Bubba the Love Sponge Clem, who founded the 501(3) (c) Florida charity in 2008 to help raise awareness and channel donations to worthy community causes and victims.

“We all suffer when our community loses a law enforcement officer, but to me, it’s especially important to assist the family that suffers the loss,” said Bubba.

Deputy Mark Longway, 48, was killed when his police cruiser collided with a tractor trailer in downtown Tampa near Scott Street and Florida Avenue. He was the father of two grown children and had recently become a grandfather.

This is the third such contribution that the Bubba the Love Sponge Foundation has made this year. On August 17, $53,000 in donations was presented to the families of fallen Tampa Police Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis.

In July, $45,000 in funds were raised and donated to families of three Florida law enforcement officers who were killed this year in the line of duty in St. Johns County, Dixie County and Miami. Previously, more than $50,000 was distributed to the families of four Tampa Bay area law enforcement members who lost their lives or were critically injured in the line of duty.
