Shield comes back for another try

Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-VT) has threatened to take the stalled reporters shield bill straight to the Senate floor, but before he does, apparently he will give his committee at least one more chance to give it a stamp of approval.

Officially known as S. 448, Free Flow of Information Act of 2009, it has long enjoyed bipartisan support and sponsorship, but recently ran into surprise opposition from the Obama administration. A compromise between sponsors and the White House was worked out, but then some Republican members of Judiciary balked at it.

It is back on the agenda of the Committee’s next business meeting, scheduled for Thursday 12/3/09 at 10AM Eastern.
