Shifting at WGN-AM Chicago and WCCO-AM Minneapolis

You may want to take notes. This is complicated.

First off, Tribune’s WGN-AM Chicago is flipping Garry Meier to afternoon drive (3-7 pm) with Steve Cochran, who is now 1-3 pm.

“Response to Garry’s early afternoon show has been great, and we want more people to know he’s on WGN Radio,” said Kevin Metheny, WGN Program Director. “This schedule adjustment gets Garry more starts in front of more listeners, often following the powerful audience magnet of the Chicago Cubs.”

Greg Jarrett and John Williams will remain in their respective 5-9 am and 9 am-1 pm shows.

But wait! There’s more!

John Williams will also host a show on CBS Radio’s WCCO-AM in the Twin Cities, where he spent four years prior to joining WGN Radio in 1997. Williams will broadcast from the WGN Radio studios, airing from 9 am – 1 pm in Chicago and from 1 pm – 3 pm in the Twin Cities.

“I spent four fantastic years on air at WCCO Radio before going to Chicago. Both stations have a long history, are hugely successful and are pillars in their respective communities. I now get the best of both worlds,” said Williams.

“John is a perfect complement to our afternoon programming lineup with his show from 1-3 and Michelle Tafoya from 3-6 pm.,” said Wendy Paulson, WCCO Radio Program Director.  “He has stayed connected to the Twins Cities, he understands our community, he’s smart, articulate and is entrenched in the Mid-West lifestyle.”

RBR-TVBR observation: Let’s just hope he can remember whether he’s rooting for the Cubs or the Twins when he opens the mic!
