Shoveling metaphoric coal for Kohl

The FCC has been tasked with looking into the telecom business by Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI), who is Chair of the Senate Judiciary’s subcommittee on antitrust matters. The questions revolve around top dogs AT&T and Verizon. Have they been abusing their market power at the expense of both consumers and smaller competitors? Kohl wants to know. The DOJ is also looking into the matter, and as a matter of fact, was included in Kohl’s assignment.

RBR/TVBR observation: We mention this not because we have any great interest in telecom matters – we mention it because it could be the kind of major project, along with new Chairman Julius Genachowski’s professed interest in the propagation of broadband, that will help broadcasters stay in the shadows, where they are less likely to suffer from onerous new regulations at the hand of Washington bureaucrats.
