Sinclair Broadcast Group announced an extension of its affiliation agreements with the Fox Network. They had been due to expire March 31, 2012, but have now been extended to December 31, 2012.

Included in the new deal is Second Generation of Iowa’s KFXA-TV Cedar Rapids, IA, which Sinclair operates pursuant to an outsourcing agreement. It had been on a month-to-month basis since its Fox affiliation agreement ran out. Sinclair owns KGAN-TV (CBS) in the market.

In addition, Sinclair announced that it “has entered into an overall programming licensing agreement with the Fox Network which allows the Company to enter into retransmission consent agreements with distributors for the remainder of the term of the affiliation agreement.”

The announcement Wednesday (1/12) came as Sinclair continues to negotiate with one of the largest cable MSOs, Time Warner Cable, over retransmission consent for its stations, the largest group of which are Fox affiliates. After being extended from New Year’s Eve, that retrans deal is now facing a deadline of this Friday, January 14.
