Sinclair Hires Butcher To Get Flint Trio Cooking

Seven years after saying goodbye to leading a local broadcast television operation, Becky Butcher is back in the building. This time, however, she’s taking on a bigger role in overseeing not only the NBC and CW Network affiliates she ran for 17 years but also the FOX affiliate serving three mid-Michigan cities.

Becky Butcher is back at WEYI-25, the NBC affiliate serving Saginaw-Bay City-Flint, Mich.; and CW-aligned WBSF-46.

She’s overseeing the services agreement held for the stations by Sinclair Broadcast Group, which has hired her to serve as its market VP/GM.

Sinclair’s property in the market is FOX affiliated WSMH-66.

Butcher returns to local TV in Flint and Saginaw-Bay City after a seven-year sojourn in the OOH arena.

From August 1998 through the first weeks of 2015, Butcher was VP/GM of WEYI, the NBC affiliate that had lost its CBS affiliation following a major Big Four network alignment in nearby Detroit. She hired by Sunrise Television and stayed with the property through its purchase by LIN TV. Under LIN ownership, Butcher in 2004 led the launch of WBSF, then an affiliate of The WB.

By 2015, Sinclair ended up running the stations’ operations, through marketing and services agreements with WEYI owner Howard Stirk Holdings and WBSF licensee Cunningham Broadcasting, respectively.

Now, Butcher has said goodbye to out-of-home advertising, as she’s concluded her seven-year run as GSM of Adams Outdoor Advertising.

“Rebecka is well-respected with deep relationships in the community,” said Rob Weisbord, President of Broadcast and COO at Sinclair Broadcast Group.” She is a strategic thinker with a history of strong sales and business development, and we are thrilled Rebecka has returned home to lead the team in Flint.”

Butcher added, “My motto has always been, hope is not a plan, put your strategy in front of you and follow your roadmap to success. I’m excited to return and help build the roadmap to continue to grow the success of these stations.”
