Sirius XM probe widens

Missouri’s attorney general isn’t the only one investigating the business practices of Sirius XM Satellite Radio. An SEC filing by the company reveals that several other AGs also have it in their sights.

“In October 2010, a Multistate Working Group, led by the Attorney General of the State of Ohio and joined by the Offices of the Attorneys General of Arizona, Connecticut, Tennessee, Vermont and the District of Columbia, commenced a multi-jurisdictional investigation into certain of our consumer practices. The investigation focuses on our practices relating to the cancellation of subscriptions; automatic renewal of subscriptions; charging, billing, collecting, and refunding or crediting of payments from consumers; and soliciting customers. A separate investigation into our consumer-related practices is being conducted by the Attorney General of the State of Florida. In addition, in September 2010, the Attorney General of the State of Missouri commenced an action against us regarding our telemarketing practices to residents of the State of Missouri,” Sirius XM reported.

“We are cooperating with these investigations and believe our consumer-related practices comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations,” the company added.
