Smith, Clyburn figure in Media Institute event

Gordon SmithActing FCC Chairwoman Mignon Clyburn will provide a keynote address and NAB President/CEO Gordon Smith will be honored with an award when The Media Institute gathers in Washington 10/22/13 for its annual Friends & Benefactors Awards Banquet.


Smth will be presented with the American Horizon Award. The former Oregon senator will receive the award from the current Ranking Member of the House Communications Subcommittee, Greg Walden (R-OR).

Also being honored is AMC Networks President and CEO Josh Sapan, credited with bringing compelling new programming to his network. He’s receiving the Freedom of Speech Award.

Clyburn may or may not be the Acting Chair by the time this session convenes, but her tenure has been historic, marking the first time a woman has headed the Commission. The nomination of Tom Wheeler to the FCC chair is pending Senate confirmation.

Long time Washington communications attorney and former FCC Chairman Richard E. Wiley will be performing emcee chores.
